The story follows Ensign Dahl and his fellows, recently assigned to the Intrepid, a deep-space exploration vessel headed by a charismatic, action-tastic captain, a logical alien science officer, a grumpy doctor, a Russian pilot and so on. Needless to say, I was hoping for more of the same from REDSHIRTS.Īs it happens, REDSHIRTS is a different beast. They are fun, witty books that simultaneously pay homage to and question the morality of the kind of military space opera epitomized by Robert Heinlein.
